Ten Afghan civilians were killed when a bus collided with a US military vehicle today.

There were no American casualties in the accident on the highway from the southern city of Kandahar to the Pakistani border, said Abdul Wasai, the police chief for Spin Boldak district, where the accident occurred.

A US military spokesman in Kabul, Lt. Col. Jerry O’Hara, said he had not heard of a crash involving a US military vehicle, but said there was one involving an Afghan army truck in the district.

It was not clear if they were the same incident.

Gen. Raziq Khan, the Afghan defence ministry chief in Spin Boldak, gave the same details about the crash as the police commander and said it was a “very bad accident.”

Wasai said US troops had cordoned off the location of the accident. He said it was not clear how the crash occurred and that an investigation had been launched.
