Aide says French PM expected to resign

Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin was expected to present his resignation to President Jacques Chirac today following France’s “no” to the proposed European constitution, an aide said.

Speculation has mounted for days about the unpopular prime minister’s departure.

The aide said that Raffarin was expected to meet with Chirac later today to present his resignation.
