Iraqi forces have captured the leader of an al-Qaida-affiliated terrorist cell allegedly responsible for carrying out a string of beheadings, the government said.

The government identified the cell leader as Mohamed Najam Ibrahim and said he had been arrested by Iraqi National Guardsmen in Baqouba, 35 miles north east of Baghdad. It gave no date for the arrest.
