Police investigate murder of pregnant 14-year-old
British police investigating the murder of a heavily pregnant teenager issued a fresh appeal today to find her missing clothes.
West Mercia Police formally identified the partially clothed body found in the grounds of a Shropshire church as 14-year-old Amy Williams.
They launched a murder inquiry after a post-mortem indicated she had been strangled.
Her body was found in the graveyard of St Michael’s Parish Church, Madeley, on Monday morning by an elderly man as he visited his wife’s grave.
It was reported she was clothed only in pink socks.
A forensics team was carrying out a search today of the church’s grounds where only mourners at a funeral were allowed on to the property by police.
Investigating officers say they are still looking for the items of clothing Amy was last wearing.
Today, they renewed their appeal to the people of Madeley to check their gardens, hedges and dustbins again for a pink tracksuit, white T-shirt and white Kappa trainers.
“Amy was partially clothed when she was found and we are particularly keen to speak to anyone about the clothing she was believed to be wearing in the evening,” said deputy investigating officer Detective Inspector Andy Parsons.
Police also want to speak to anyone who saw Amy on Boxing Day evening. She was last seen between 9pm and 10pm in Southgate, in the Sutton Hill area of Telford where she lived with her mother.
Further tests are being carried out to determine whether she was sexually assaulted and find out if she was killed in the church grounds or whether her body was dumped there later.
Amy’s mother Jane Chattle told the Daily Mail: “I’m utterly devastated. I’m saddened and sickened that anyone could do such a thing.”
