School stampede kills one, injures 25
A stampede at an elementary and middle school in rural China killed one child and injured 25 people.
The accident occurred when children at the front of a group of students leaving the school in Lijiahe Township, in a mountainous area of central China’s Hubei province, suddenly fell, causing students behind them to lose balance and trample them, the official Xinhua News Agency reported today.
It said a 10-year-old was killed.
The reason the children fell was not given, but the report said authorities were investigating.
In March, a stampede at a school in north China’s Shanxi province killed two girls, aged 12 and 13, as students rushed to an exam.
