Turkish prisoners take guards hostage

Hundreds of inmates took five guards hostage during a prison riot early today in western Turkey, but released two of the guards as they negotiated with authorities to end the stand-off.

Five inmates were hospitalised with burns and stabbing by other inmates during the uprising at Buca prison, near the Aegean port city of Izmir, the Anatolia news agency reported.
