Many hurt in latest India bomb blast
A string of bomb and gun attacks in north-eastern India continued for a second day today, as a blast at a crowded market wounded 15 people. Police have blamed the violence that has left 50 dead and more than 100 wounded on separatist rebels.
Troops patrolled the streets in Assam and Nagaland states to prevent further bloodshed.
The violence across the two states was some of the deadliest to hit the region, where more than three dozen insurgent groups have been active - including one of Asia’s longest running separatist conflicts, dating to shortly before India gained independence from Britain in 1947.
It began yesterday when suspected separatists detonated a bomb at a packed railway station and sprayed gunfire into bustling markets.
Today’s attack came when a bomb exploded in Dhekiagula, a village 105 miles north of Gauhati, the Assam state capital, wounding 15 people, a police officer said.
