Two US marines confirmed dead in Iraq fighting
Fighting between insurgents and American forces west of Baghdad killed two US Marines, the military said.
The two marines died in separate clashes yesterday in Anbar province.
The US military had initially said two coalition troops were killed during heavy fighting in the Anbar city of Ramadi, but it declined to reveal their nationalities.
A number of US military camps in Ramadi came under mortar attack and two US helicopters made emergency landings after coming attack from small arms before returning their base, the military said.
The deaths of the two marines takes the tally of US personnel killed in Iraq to at least 908 since the war began.
A Polish soldier was killed today and six others were wounded when attacked while on patrol in Iraq, the Polish Defence Minister said.
The attack happened on a road leading north from Hillah toward Baghdad while the soldiers were on a routine patrol, Jerzy Szmajdzinski said.
As they drove along the road in their jeeps, a booby-trap went off, spraying shrapnel at them, Szmajdzinski said.
