Plane makes emergency landing at Heathrow
A plane carrying around 200 passengers made an emergency landing at Heathrow today after the pilot detected a possible fault.
The Lufthansa Airbus 300 was on its way to London from Munich when the problem emerged.
A helicopter from Solent Coastguard was called in to escort the aircraft to Heathrow, and emergency services were put on standby.
A spokesman for Heathrow Airport said the plane – Lufthansa flight 4578 - landed safely on the southern runway just after 4pm.
All the passengers disembarked as normal, he added.
“In these circumstances it is routine for the emergency services to be put on standby, but there was no incident for them to deal with after the landing.”
