Sydney Airport evacuated after security scare

Australia’s main international airport was evacuated today after a man tried to get on to a Qantas flight to Los Angeles without a boarding pass, federal police said.

There was no confirmation from airport officials on how many passengers and staff were ordered out of the international terminal of Sydney Airport.

Television reports said several thousand travellers were affected over a six to eight-hour period.

An Australian Federal Police spokesman said the man, arrested but not charged, was taken to a hospital near the airport for medical assessment.
