Two dead after Saudi gun battle

A gunbattle between Saudi security forces and militants left two people dead and three wounded.

The shootout was in the al-Mohammediya district of Riyadh, and took place after security forces went to a hideout in the north Riyadh district.

“The shootout resulted in the killing of one wanted individual and the wounding of another,” a Saudi interior ministry statement said.

The men were not named, nor was it known whether they were on Saudi Arabia’s list of 26 most wanted terrorists.

The statement said security officer Saleh el-Gerni was killed and two other officers were admitted to hospital with wounds.

One of the wounded is National Guardsman Saad al-Subeihi, who tipped off the authorities about the location of the militants.
