Hungarian police deny assassination plot
Budapest police arrested a suspect of Palestinian origin during the visit of Israeli President Moshe Katsav today and said he was planning to bomb the Hungarian capital’s Jewish museum.
Two Syrians were held for questioning.
Israeli officials and diplomats had earlier spoken of three Arab suspects being arrested on suspicion they were planning to assassinate Katsav.
But senior police officials denied a link between Katsav’s visit and the planned attack.
“There is no connection whatsoever between today’s official visit by the Israeli president and the police action taken this morning,” said National Police Commissioner Laszlo Salgo.
