Volvo Cars is recalling 105,000 cars worldwide because of a problem with the steering system, a company spokesman said today.

The problem affects the 2004 S60, S80 and V70 models and can be fixed at a Volvo repair shop, company spokesman Peter Ganjbar said.

The problem, which involves ball joints in the steering system, has not caused any accidents, but could affect handling, he said.

The recall includes 10,000 cars in Britain, 30,000 in the United States, 17,000 in Sweden and 9,000 in Germany.

Ford bought Volvo Cars in 1999.
