The Basque terror group ETA has threatened to resume attacks on foreign tourists, the Spanish government warned.

Spanish Interior Minister Angel Acebes said ETA had sent letters to the principal tourism operators reminding them of ETA’s past actions against the sector.

In one ETA letter given out by the ministry, the armed group warned it “will continue hitting tourist targets in Spain” and calls on operators not to promote tourism here.

ETA has set off numerous bombs in tourist resorts across Spain in recent years injuring many people.

The group, whose name translates as Basque Homeland and Freedom, is blamed for more than 800 killings in its near four-decade campaign for an independent Basque state.

Tourism is Spain’s main industry.
