Terrorist alerts heightened world-wide

The US Embassy in Bahrain urged Americans to avoid crowded areas, while in Turkey police warned of terrorist attacks against Western and Israeli interests over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The moves abroad came after the US government warned that al-Qaida could stage a major attack soon at home or abroad and raised the national security level on Sunday up to orange, which is “high” alert.
