Road accident kills 21 in South Africa

A bus collided head-on with a truck today, killing 21 people along a notorious stretch of South African highway.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight near Leeu Gamka, 250 miles from Cape Town.

Accidents are frequent along this stretch of road, a poorly lit dual carriageway used by long-distance trucks and buses whose drivers sometimes fall asleep at the wheel, said police spokesman Inspector Elgin Antonie.
