Yemen warns western interests of security threat
Yemen has warned Western ambassadors of new information indicating potential terror attacks targeting foreign interests in the country.
Interior Minister Rashad al-Eleimi met the ambassadors of Britain, the US, Germany, France, and Italy on Sunday night to share the information and ask them to warn their citizens to be vigilant, an official said in the capital San’a.
He did not comment on the nature of the threat, nor on the source of the new information.
Security was notably beefed up around embassies and foreign businesses, with extra armoured cars patrolling the streets and uniformed and plainclothes security officers standing guard.
Yemen, a target for suicide bombings and other attacks in the past three years, has been an active participant in the US led war on terror, cracking down on Islamic extremists and agreeing to allow an FBI office to open later this year.
