Ambassador issues Indonesia terror warning
The US ambassador in Indonesia warned today that more terror attacks were likely to follow the Marriott Hotel bombing that killed 12 people in the capital Jakarta last week.
Ralph Boyce said possible targets included hotels, clubs, restaurants, shopping centres, housing compounds and even schools.
“As we make ourselves into harder and harder targets, they will turn to softer and softer targets,” he said.
The Marriott bombing was blamed on Jemaah Islamiyah, a Muslim extremist group with links to Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida network.
“There remain small groups of people with access to bomb-making material,” Boyce said.
“Therefore it is likely that there will be further attempts.”
