Greek hydrofoil hits rocks
Twenty people were treated in hospital for minor injuries today after a hydrofoil hit rocks outside the Greek port of Volos.
No one was seriously hurt.
The vessel carrying 75 passengers from the nearby Aegean Sea holiday islands of Skiathos and Skopelos took on water after the crash.
Passengers and crew were taken off the hydrofoil before it partially sank.
“I have ordered an immediate inquiry into the cause of the accident,” Merchant Marine Minister Giorgos Paschalidis said.
Greece overhauled maritime safety rules following a ferry disaster in September 2000, when 80 people died after the ship struck rocks and sank off the Aegean island of Paros.
