Coalition troops injured in Afghan ambush
A coalition convoy was ambushed in south-eastern Afghanistan, injuring two coalition troops and an Afghan soldier, the US military said today.
The attack occurred north of Orgun in Paktika province yesterday, said a statement from the US military headquarters at Bagram Air Base, north of the capital Kabul.
The two coalition soldiers, whose names and nationalities were not released, were reported to be in a stable condition at a coalition base near Khost.
There were no details on the extent of their injuries. The Afghan soldier was not identified and nothing was said about his injuries.
The convoy was attacked with Kalashnikov automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, the statement said.
Coalition troops are targeted almost daily in the volatile southern and south-eastern parts of Afghanistan in attacks blamed on Taliban and al Qaida remnants and fighters loyal to renegade warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
Three coalition soldiers were wounded when an improvised bomb exploded in the middle of their convoy in the eastern Kunar province, a US military spokesman said yesterday.
