Baby dies after restaurant roof collapse

A baby girl has died after the roof of a Chinese restaurant collapsed on a busy shopping street, British police said today.

The 10-month-old was taken to Sandwell Hospital along with her mother, who suffered a broken arm in the incident in High Street, West Bromwich, England.

A second woman also suffered a broken arm and a man, who police said tried to get involved in the rescue, was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

West Midlands Police said stonework appeared to have come away from the roof section of the property just after 11am.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene which was cordoned off.
