Iraqi ambassador accuses allies of genocide

Iraq’s ambassador to China today accused the Allies of committing a “genocide crime” against the Iraqi people and said popular resistance would start soon.

Ambassador Mowaffaq Alani said the scenes of Iraqis welcoming American and British troops were staged.

And he said the people filmed destroying statues of President Saddam Hussein did not represent the population as a whole.

“Of course I’m worried about my people. The genocide crime they are executing in our country against our people, the bombardment of civilians, the demolishing of every establishment in our country,” Alani said.

“All these pictures coming into the international TV are from the camera on the American tank so you can imagine the purpose and objective of these cameras,” he said.

In contrast to other Iraqi diplomats who have admitted the Iraqi government is defeated, he said it was too early to predict the end of the regime.

“Any nation may lose one battle, but losing the war is something else,” Alani said in his Beijing office, which was adorned with an Iraqi flag and a portrait of Saddam.

“Iraqi people never accept any foreigners to occupy their territory,” he said. “They will see the resistance of the people of Iraq in the near future.”
