A huge snowstorm took a bite out of spring across the US today, burying emerging flower buds, cancelling baseball games and snarling the morning rush hour.

Up to a foot of wet, heavy snow had buried parts of Nebraska in the Midwest and six inches of snow was possible in the New York City area.
