Thousands ignore Saddam's plea and flee Baghdad

Thousands of Iraqi’s today ignored Saddam Hussein’s exaltations to stay and fight and were fleeing Baghdad in a stream of bumper-to-bumper vehicles after US troops seized the capital’s airport.

The Iraqi information minister official promised an “unconventional” response tonight to the impending siege of Baghdad and said he was referring to commando and suicide attacks.
