Residents in Australia are preparing to take part in the fifth annual Community Cane Toad Round-Up.

The exercise is an effort to help stop the pests from moving south into the important coastal wetlands of Yuraygir National Park.

Over the past five years the cull, organised by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, has significantly reduced the toads population.

National Parks spokesman, Matt Clarke said the recent heavy rains in the north of the state have created ideal conditions for the cane toad to mate.

He added that with toads out on the prowl it is a good time to round them up, reports ABC News.
