Stalemate as Europe waits for Blix report

Efforts to heal Europe’s deep splits on Iraq were on hold today, awaiting the outcome of tomorrow’s report to the United Nations Security Council by chief weapons inspector Hans Blix.

The hope on both sides of the argument – for and against war – is that Mr Blix’s updated analysis of the Iraqi threat will somehow make it easier to win unity within NATO and the EU.
