Columbia 'had unusual rise in temperature'
Nasa have released more details about the technical problems that the space shuttle Columbia may have experienced just minutes before it disintegrated in mid-air.
It is alleged that the shuttle suffered a sudden and unusual rise in temperature on its left side as it started its decent to Cape Carnaval.
The craft is also understood to have experienced drag to the left side while on-board computers battled to correct the problem in the minutes before the shuttle broke up.
Investigations are continuing into how the tragedy, in which seven astronauts lost their lives, occurred.
The focus will remain on whether the shuttle's left wing may have been damaged.
