The EU is introducing a new centralised fingerprinting database for all asylum seekers to enable closer monitoring of refugee applications and prevent abuses of the system.

The so-called Eurodac system comes into operation tomorrow to ensure asylum seekers will be fingerprinted in the first point of entry into the EU.
