Man makes skyscraper death leap

A man scaled part of one of Houston’s best-known skyscrapers today, then jumped to his death as a crowd watched.

The man had reached about the 30th floor on of the 64 storey Williams Tower.

“He did not have any of the normal professional equipment you’d normally see on someone trying to climb a building,” said fire brigade spokesman Jay Evans said.

Witnesses said the man appeared to spring from the 901 foot, black glass tower.

Pat McGarey said the man was yelling or singing and periodically waved his hands before taking an extended pause.

“It clearly looked like he jumped as opposed to falling,” he said.
