Both the US and the EU are urging Israel to show restraint after tanks and soldiers broke into Yasser Arafat's Ramallah compound on Thursday and began demolishing buildings.

Both the US and the EU are urging Israel to show restraint after tanks and soldiers broke into Yasser Arafat's Ramallah compound on Thursday and began demolishing buildings.

However, Israeli Army spokesperson, General Ruth Yaron said Israel has no intention of harming Mr Arafat.

“The shots that you heard earlier were warning shots to tell the people inside the building that we are serious and we expect them to surrender," she said.
