The level of chlorine-based chemicals in the atmosphere is falling and the hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica should close within 50 years, scientists in Australia and New Zealand have said.

New Zealand ozone researcher Greg Bodecker said measurements from a number of sites around the world, by several research groups, “have confirmed that stratospheric chlorine levels have indeed peaked.”
