Threats shut US embassies on anniversary
The US embassies in Indonesia and Malaysia are to shut tomorrow until further notice because of warnings of possible terrorist attacks on the anniversary of September 11.
A spokesman in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, said a “credible and specific threat” had been received.
US citizens in both countries were warned to be extremely cautious over the coming days.
“They should maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to reduce their vulnerability and maintain a low profile,” a statement said.
A ceremony in the Indonesian capital Jakarta to mark the anniversary tomorrow was also cancelled because of the threat, spokesman Stan Hersher said.
