At least 50 drown as boat capsizes on river

At least 50 people, half of them schoolchildren, are feared dead after their boat capsized on an Indian river.

The boat, which was carrying 85 people, toppled in the swirling waters of the rain-swollen Baitarani River in the Jajpur district of eastern Orissa state.

Thirty people have managed to swim ashore, but the rest have been swept away by the heavy current.
