Murder hunt vow of Thailand backpacker's parents
The parents of a murdered British backpacker have spoken of their increasing frustration that their daughter's killer has not been brought to justice.
Glyn and Sue Jones have vowed to carry on fighting to see the person guilty of killing 23-year-old Kirsty Jones found and brought to court.
Kirsty's body was found at a hostel in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on August 10, 2000.
The Liverpool University graduate had been raped and strangled in her room at the £1-a-night Aree guesthouse in the tourist town, 420 miles north of Bangkok.
Kirsty, from Tredomen, near Brecon, south Wales, had spent three months backpacking in Thailand and was planning to move on to Australia as part of a two-year world tour.
Dyfed Powys Police, who have been involved in the investigation, have warned that a conclusion to the case is not in sight.
A statement released by Sue and Glyn said: "We have become increasingly frustrated by the misleading reports that seem to emerge from Thailand through the press.
"No sooner do we get our hopes of ever catching the killer raised than they are once again dashed.
"The one thing we want we cannot have, so we must continue to keep pushing to ensure that the guilty person is brought to justice. The correct person.
"Dyfed Powys Police continue to liase with the Thai authorities, and for this we are just so grateful and thank them. Two years on and the missing and the hurt is no less, but we just hope that one day there will be a conviction. We just keep fighting on for Kirsty."
