A British Army major was today charged with deception and conspiracy by detectives investigating an alleged swindle involving the ITV series of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? quiz show, police said.

Major Charles Ingram, 38, who scooped £1m (€1.6m) on the show last September, said nothing as he left a police station in London on bail after being charged.

His wife Diana Ingram, 38, and a business lecturer Tecwen Whittock, 52, were charged with the same two counts.

A 35-year-old man is on bail pending further inquiries.
