US soldiers injured in Afghanistan ambush

Four US soldiers were wounded today and two Afghan militia members were killed when they came under small arms fire during a reconnaissance mission in south-eastern Afghanistan, an army spokesman said.

The attack took place about seven miles east of the town of Khost, said Sgt Matthew Davio.

The US soldiers were evacuated to the main US military base at Bagram, 30 miles north of the capital Kabul, for treatment.

The injuries were not life-threatening, Davio said.

The soldiers’ names were not released pending notification of relatives.
