Death toll rises to five after crash
Latest reports suggest there are now five people dead after a train derailed outside London this afternoon.
The passenger train derailed, smashing into a bridge and a station platform north of London.
The four-carriage electric train left the tracks as it sped through Potters Bar station in Hertfordshire.
It was the fifth major rail accident in five years and happened a few miles from Hatfield, where four people died when a GNER express came off the tracks in October 2000.
Emergency services sources at the scene in Potters Bar said five people were feared dead. Police confirmed three people with life threatening injuries, nine serious injuries, and between 25 and 50 walking wounded.
