Diana butler to face Old Bailey trial

Paul Burrell, the former butler to Princess Diana, is to face trial at the Old Bailey on October 14.

He is accused of stealing 302 items from her estate, 22 items from Prince William and four from the Prince of Wales.

Burrell, 43, of Farndon, Chester, has denied through his lawyers having acted dishonestly at any time.

Burrell was arrested in January this year and is on unconditional bail.

The items are alleged to have been stolen between January 1, 1997 and June 30, 1998 from Kensington Palace.

They include jewellery, CDs, hats, bags, crockery, personal photographs and negatives, cards and letters. It is alleged letters from Diana to Prince William signed: "Mummy" were among them.

Burrell left the Old Bailey with his solicitor Andrew Shaw.
