The only man charged in connection with the attacks on the US on September 11th last year has requested that his trial be televised live.

Zacarias Moussaoui’s lawyers have argued that a live broadcast would help guarantee a fair trial for their client.

The 33-year-old French-Moroccan has been charged with six counts of conspiracy, including four which carry a potential death penalty.

His trial is due to begin on October 14th, shortly after the first anniversary of the September 11th attacks, and his defence team is worried that the publicity expected to surround the anniversary will hamper Moussaoui’s chances of a fair trial.

US prosecutors have claimed that Moussaoui would have been the much-talked-about 20th hijacker, but he had difficulty entering the United States.
