Sept 11 'showed importance of family life'
The September 11 terrorist attacks on the US have brought home to people the importance of their family life, according to a new poll.
The survey found that 78% thought their family was more important than their career, compared to just 50% in a similar poll before the atrocities.
Full details of the poll were given in a Channel 4 documentary last night entitled The Year the World Changed, which analyses the impact of the attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
The survey suggested the attacks had weakened trust between different groups in society.
A third of young people, and 28% of the public in general, said they were more distrustful following the outrages.
One in four of those quizzed said September 11 meant their lives would never be the same. Of those, more than 40% said the tragedy had made them more compassionate or more determined to make every second count.
:: BMRB International polled 1,012 British adults between December 7 and 9 for The Year the World Changed, which was broadcast on Channel 4 last night.
