Pakistan police sieze 'Afghan weapons'

Pakistani police have seized its largest cache of smuggled arms and ammunition.

It claims the weapons are being smuggled in from Afghanistan to the border town of Quetta. Two men were arrested.

Balochistan province police chief Shoaib Suddle said the 124 sub-machine guns, 248 rifles, two mortars, 342 mortar bombs, and almost 30,000 rounds of ammunition found.

Since US air strikes on Afghanistan began in October, more than 200 foreign nationals, most suspected of being bin Laden's men, have been detained by Pakistani troops in border towns including Quetta.

But troops deployed to seal off remote border crossings from Afghanistan are being withdrawn amid rising tensions with Pakistan's neighbour, India.

Meanwhile, further reports claimed that al-Qaida had been conducting poison gas experiments and attempting to build a low-grade nuclear "dirty bomb" and a "supergun".
