The suspected bomber who tried to detonate explosives in his training shoes during a transatlantic flight on a US airliner appeared in a Boston court today.

The 28-year-old man, who boarded the Paris to Miami US Airlines flight using a British passport in the name Richard Reid, faced holding charges of intimidation or assault of a flight crew causing interference with their duties. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted.
