A group of bandits in Afghanistan has reportedly demanded a £23,000 ransom for a Canadian journalist who was abducted in the south of the country.

An unidentified Pakistani intelligence officer said the Taliban initially detained Ken Hetchman on Tuesday night in the town of Spin Boldak, but released him the next morning.
