Trace of anthrax found on letter sent to Connecticut town

US investigators have discovered a trace of anthrax in a letter sent to a civilian's home.

They have been searching for the source of the anthrax that killed a 94-year-old woman, and have found the germ on a letter at a nearby address.

The latest address to have been sent infected post is in the Oxford area of Connecticut.

Authorities say a small amount of mail passed through a postal facility near New Jersey, that handled anthrax-tainted letters.

94-year-old Ottilie Lundgren died on November 21, and investigators say her mail may have somehow come in contact with contaminated letters.

They are trying to determine how Lundgren, a retired widow who rarely left home, came in contact with the anthrax.

A police spokesman said: "I don't think anyone suspects that Mrs. Lundgren was a target."

"We all believe, again unscientifically because it's not proven, that she was a victim of cross-contamination," he added.
