German police arrest man over September 11 hijackings
German authorities have arrested a man in Hamburg who allegedly has direct links to the September 11 hijackers.
The man, identified by federal prosecutors only as 27-year-old Mounir El M, is accused of supporting a terrorist group.
He allegedly held a bank account used by hijacker Marwan Al-Shehhi, according to a statement from the prosecutors' office.
The account, from a Hamburg bank, was allegedly used to finance Al-Shehhi and other members of the terrorist group, including suspected ringleader Mohamed Atta and also Ziad Jarrah.
Funds were used to support Al-Shehhi during his stay in the US and to pay for his flight school in Florida, the office also said.
