Harry Potter author hails privacy victory

JK Rowling has welcomed her victory in a privacy battle with OK! magazine.

The Harry Potter author complained when it published photographs of her on holiday with her eight-year-old daughter.

The British Press Complaints Commission agreed because the photographs were taken with a long lens camera without the author's knowledge when she and her daughter were on a private beach.

Ms Rowling said the photographs were an invasion of her privacy and a breach of the rule in the newspaper code of practice, which bans pictures of children just because their parents are famous.

She said: "I am delighted and relieved that the PCC has ruled in Jessica's (her daughter) favour.

"I am endeavouring to give her as normal an upbringing as possible and have made every possible effort over the last four years to protect her from press intrusion.

"I hope and believe that the PCC's adjudication in this case will protect Jessica against such incidents in future and hopefully act as a precedent in cases involving other children who, little though they may sometimes wish it, have famous parents."
