One killed in Pinochet protests
One person died, several were injured and more than 200 were detained yesterday when the 28th anniversary of General Augusto Pinochet’s military coup sparked unrest and some looting in Santiago’s poorer suburbs.
Police said one person was shot to death by four assailants during the disturbances.
At least four people were wounded, including two police officers.
Although less tumultuous than in previous years, street protests spread throughout Santiago’s poorer suburbs, where people set up burning barricades and police deployed in force.
