Seven people died after being electrocuted when a live cable fell in a canal as they were bathing.

Police in Bangladesh say an oil tanker tried to enter the canal in a Barisal town and brought down the wire with its mast.

The victims were aged between four and 45.

At least 10 other people are still missing.

Fire brigade divers are continuing to search the canal at Palashpur and the nearby Kirtonkhola river.

The oil tanker left the area before officials arrived, reports said.
