Police use rubber bullets against Sri Lankan protestors
Sri Lankan soldiers and police officers have used rubber bullets and tear gas to block tens of thousands of protestors from demonstrating in Columbo against the suspension of the country's parliament.
Ten protestors were treated in hospital for injuries caused by rubber bullets, while police, using emergency laws designed to combat an 18-year guerrilla war, said they will arrest anyone who tries to demonstrate.
The opposition United National Party had vowed to send 100,000 protestors into the capital's streets to protest against President Chandrika Kumaratunga's suspension of parliament on July 11th.
