Two escapees on the run in Scotland

Another prisoner has escaped from custody in Scotland.

Multiple rapist William McGirr walked out of a high security psychiatric wing of the Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen on Monday.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh prisoner Gordon Johnstone who has a history of violence against pensioners and the disabled, has escaped for the third time.

Johnstone is on the run after failing to return to Saughton Prison in Edinburgh on Saturday after being given unescorted leave.

Reports say the 43-year-old had been working at a local garden centre as part of his "training for freedom" course.

Prison chiefs say he poses no threat to the public but police are advising people not to approach him.

Johnstone was jailed in 1990 for six years after admitting 74 charges of fraud, theft and assault and robbery involving pensioners throughout Central Scotland.

Two years later he went on the run after failing to return to Penninghame Prison after being allowed home leave.

He then committed six robberies, resulting in another seven-year jail sentence.

Johnstone escaped again in 1995 when he failed to return to Greenock Prison after being allowed out to attend a prayer meeting.

He dragged a disabled man from his wheelchair and robbed him before being caught.
